The tour was listed as an easy hike. If the trail had been in normal condition this would have been true. The trail had been washed out in several areas and in one are we crossed a steep muddy are. In other areas we had to walk up steep slopes with no trail. Sometimes we walked up stream beds that were dry at the time. It was an amazing adventure but was not an easy walk. The guide was able to keep us on track.
We went on this trip in the middle of October 2017. Our first impression of the guide Abraham was excellent. Abraham is very well educated and friendly. He taught me and my girlfriend about nature, people and the society. The hike itself wasn't what we expected. The walk is in the rain forest with almost no views of the hills around. A tip is to bring mosquito spray or long armed shirt to repel the buggs. on our day of the trip it was raining so when we got to the view point we didn't see anything, only clouds. But it was still a fascinating walk in a terrain witch was new for us Scandinavian.
The last tip we can give is to book this trip in the none rain season. Otherwise it's kinda of a waste of money.
This soft hiking is suitably ideal for amateurs who neither want to spend early hours hiking up Mt Merapi nor want to get too close to an active volcano. The local guide was super friendly and knowledgeable on the history of Mt Merapi and other Java attractions. Thumbs up.
Will recommend the tour conducted by this tour operator. The local guide was excellent. I can see that the guide is very passionate about Mt Merapi. He has shared many interesting commentaries about the nature and environment. I had a great time!
