This was a very informative and interesting way to get your feet on the ground in Venice. Although the tour was only three hours long, we covered a lot of ground. The tour guide used a headset that transmitted her narrative to earphones worn by the tour participants, so we could hear her even when large crowds were around. A couple of downsides to be aware of: it appears that all the tour groups congregate at St. Mark's at the same time in the morning, so it's extremely crowded and noisy. Also, th gondola ride was a little uninteresting would have been nice to have had a gondolier who wanted to explain what we were seeing as we moved along. But that was minor, I guess. I can't say enough about our guide, Marie Therese. She was fabulous knowledgable and passionate about the city and imparted lots of little-known and interesting tidbits throughout the tour. Highly recommend her.
This was a fabulous tour! We had Maria as a guide and she was fantastic. Originally from Austria but having lived in Venice for several years, I think her love and passion for the city was a plus, as she has clearly made herself very knowledgeable with a city she lives in and loves. The tour was very informative for past and present, and it was the best 'sampler platter' of different places within the city. It was a casual pace, with lots of both serious and fun information. We got a real feel for life in Italy past and present. The small group was key to getting the most out of our experience. Our 13 and 10 year-old daughters LOVED this tour and thought it was their favorite of all the four cities we visited in Italy. Thanks, Maria!
What a great way to get an overview of Venice. The walking tour was informative and fun and gave us a good starting point for our time in Venice. We spent about 20 minutes in the Basilica San Marco as she guided us through several highlights. I know others had complained this was not enough but we found it the perfect amount. We ended our tour with the gondola ride which was our favorite part. No first trip to Venice is complete without floating through the waterways on a gondola. Our gondolier gave us a tour of small, hidden canals as well as the Grand Canal and told us fun information along the way. I would definitely recommend this for all ages. You do need to be mobile enough to get in and out of the gondola.
