Nothing special and not the best wineries I hope. We've done lots of wine tours and this one didn't really measure up. Could have given everyone a bottle of water, could have told some interesting stories about the wineries, etc. Instead, our driver was pleasant, but just that. Stuck mostly to here's where we'll be going and what time we will arrive, depart, etc. Folks who 'pre-ordered' lunch were seated together in a separate part of the restaurant we stopped at. Folks who did not pre-order some because they didn't realize they could, and two who though they did but there must have been an error were told they could order meals on-site, but then were seated separate from the group. Not a great experience. I'd probably try another tour in future. This price was reasonable, but the experience reflected that.
Our tour was amazing, Hunter Valley is beautiful! Our driver, Bill, chose the perfect wineries to bring us too. He also made two additional stops for us to do an olive oil tasting and vodka tasting - he made the trip even more incredible. If you have the option to request a driver, definitely go with him!
This was a very enjoyable day. All the winery's we visited were very good, the pace of the tour was good and most importantly the wine tastings were very enjoyable and generous with their wine!. The tasting notes which accompanied several of the tastings really helped and were good to take away for future reference. Jeff, our guide was hilarious - his anecdotes kept the customers entertained, although some of his local knowledge could have been better. All in all I would recommend this tour.
What an amazing day trip. The Mercedes Sprinter Van was very comfortable for a diverse group of 15 from Texas, California, Australia, Mexico, Germany, England, Norway, Singapore, Ireland and the Ukraine. The driver quickly engaged everyone to talk about their backgrounds to create a fun environment of new friends. The drivers on these Hunter Valley Wine Tours set up their own appointments with wineries so each trip will be different. We started our day with some early pickups in Sydney and arrived at our first winery Pigs Peake around 10AM where our first tasting was not the typical 3-5 wines, but most of their extensive list of about 20 wines. Very fun and generous tasting with great stories behind the wine naming. Our second stop was at Mistletoe where we had another generous tasting paired with multiple cheeses. This was followed by an excellent lunch at the Matilda Bay Brewhouse where we were able to taste a few more wines and try some of their great Yak brand beers. After lunch, our wine tour concluded at highly rated Capercaillie. We finished our tour with some chocolate tasting and purchases at The Hinter Valley Chocolate Factory. I'd highly recommend this great day tour and would do it again.
