I can't speak to the content of the tour because of our vendor experience. When we arrived at the meeting area, we saw one of the City Wonders guides (his badge said Giuseppe) leading his group towards the steps to go down to the Colosseum. To be clear, they were still in the meeting area. We approached him and he refused to even speak to us, instead just gesturing back to where the other groups were. He literally would not say words, just waved us away like we were bothering him. It was stunning. Long story short: we should have been in his group, but by the time we found another City Wonders guide to ask where we should be, he informed us that we should have been in Giuseppe's group and we weren't able to join them. Giuseppe, in his absolutely staggering rudeness, cost us our tour. Though City Wonders offered us another tour when we contacted them about our experience, the rest of our time was booked for the duration of our visit, so we just missed out. I'd assume Giuseppe was just a bad apple guide, but we noticed a pattern of disorganization around the CW flags on our other tours while in Rome (we were looking for it, after what we experienced). I'd proceed with immense caution if they are your vendor. I won't use them again, and frankly Viator shouldn't either. (Note: In fairness to the company, we only saw this while in Rome. We made our way through Rome, Siena, Florence and Venice, and saw them operating elsewhere with much better organization. So in other cities you’d probably be fine, but our experience left such a bad taste in our mouths that we'll stick to other companies from now on.)
A long walk ! There is an elevator so take it. My husband is 80 and I'm 75. We were with our grandchildren 25-27. Wear a good pair of tennis or walking shoes because there is not a flat rock to be had.Our group was large. You pay more but a private tour is so much better it is will worth the extra money because you may not do it again .
Ear buds for hearing the guide, especially in crowds. Check function before the tourGuide had great pictures of the Colosseum as originally built. This was helpful since we were looking at ruins for the most part.Colosseum portion of tour could be shortened to allow more time on Palatine Hill
