This tour was not what was advertised. We were notified when we were already 10min from the coliseum that our tour had been rescheduled for later the afternoon. We explained we had already walked a mile to get there and they ended up having us wait 1 hour and do the forum part first. but because of the new underground tour time our forum visit was cut short. We waited over an 1 hour at the meeting point before even start the forum tour. it was very difficult with 2 young children especially with the limited access to bathrooms and planning to complete the tour by lunch time. we had booked skip the line so that we didn't have to wait around for hours the coliseum entrance wait time was 1.5hr so we didn't save that much time.
The biggest disappointment was that the under ground tours was supposed to be limited to 6 people which the tour guide himself told us before we entered with out him. Instead there was 22 people in just our tour alone. this made it hard to hear the tour guide and get close to where she was explaining things.
Right off the bat we ran into a bit of a glitch with the tour booking, which was rescheduled only a week before we traveled. At first we were given a new date that didn't work for us. Because we were keen to get a guided tour, we opted for a Sunday afternoon not the best for crowds or heat of the day. We can definitely echo the comments regarding the odd set-up and being passed from one person to the next before we finally got our real guide for the Colosseum. We thoroughly enjoyed the underground experience, although it seemed a bit rushed. We had little time to get to the gate to meet up with a new guide for the Forum and Palatine Hill. This portion also seemed a bit rushed. The guide was good, definitely colorful and all in all it was informative and entertaining. I would still give it 4 stars out of 5.
We loved getting to go Underground at the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Tour. Unfortunately, our tour guide for the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Tour was a bit much-Matthew was not kind to my 11 year old son and used the wording "don't be a smart ass" when my son was asking general questions about the tour and he loves to talk and ask questions and our guide didn't see to have time to answer questions. The entire tour group participants did not like Matthew and how he acted regarding the tour. Also, the Colosseum Tour Guide was ill during our tour and smelt of alcohol and threw up non-stop during the tour. It was a crazy experience and not one I have had with Viator before. Sorry Viator, but the group you contracted to work with on this group tour was not to your level of excellence with regards to service expectation!!!
We were extremely disappointed with the tour company. They were not at the meeting location provided on the voucher and were unreachable via the provided phone number. So after finally hunting them down, we had to wait nearly an hour from the stated tour start time before even entering the Colosseum. Then, our tour of the Colosseum had to be cut in half in order to make it to even see the Forum and Palatine Hill. After a near run to the Forum, we barely made it in the gate before it stopped allowing entry. Again, as a result of the late start we had a very limited time in the Forum and Palatine Hill due to the sites closing time. So, we were unable to even walk through the Forum and only had a view from Palatine Hill. We definitely do not feel like we go our monies worth as a result of the very poor organization and delayed start time. The only bright spot of our tour was that our guide was great. We could tell that he felt bad and was equally exasperated by the situation.
Great tour, booked it on last minute and had a great time. Only thing that kept it from being 5 stars was we had to wait an hour before we could begin our tournot sure if it was a control issue by the Colosseum or not though otherwise our guides were terrific and really knew an amazing amount of detail. Mia was very funny!
