I booked this to help us to get our bearings and become familiar with Rome as we only arrived 5 hours before tour started. Our guide was Adriano from Albania I think We started late because one person got delayed and we never really caught up after that and missed out on the pizza at the end I think there are time slots and we missed ours However I will decide on 4 or 5 stars when I have finished the review. Guide was amazing and for me the cheese shop and proprietor were fantastic and then some. I also bought some of their own bottled Balsamic - it is to die for, and the selection of cheeses very small portions and wines were great. We also got a great history lesson on many things Italian, Adriano had arranged for a small birthday cake for myself and another guest 50 yrs younger than me because it was our birthday. Great company throughout and cannot fault Adriano for his efforts and knowledge. OK I am changing it to a 5,
Don't hesitate to take this tour! We did this on our first night in Rome, and it was the best decision we could have made in terms of giving us a lay of the land and a taste of the food in this great city! Marcello was excellent! He took us to so many amazing places that we would have never discovered on our own. Our sons are 21 and 24 and they loved the tour as well. Marcello was really informative and told us some great stories. He also gave some great recommendations on where to eat during our stay. We went to a gelato place that he recommended every night of our stay! Take the tour. You will not be disappointed!
If you haven't been to Rome or even if you have and want a great night, you NEED to do this tour. Even if the light rainy weather, we had a blast. Marcello I believe that was his name - half German half Italian guide was a great host. Took us to unique places to try some delicious local food and even had a few jokes along the way that were actually funny unlike other guides.
You will eat A LOT so be sure to bring an empty stomach. By the last stop of the tour, we were all so full but didn't want to stop eating the tasty food. The group was an intimate one with about 13 of us. We made friends along the way and about 6 of us went out for drinks when the tour was over.
Seriously, I highly recommend this and you will absolutely get your money's worth.
The walk thru Rome in the evening was delightful. The group was a perfect size and the guide was very knowledgeable with an excellent rapport with the group. The foods tasted and shared were abundant and delicious, however, for a wine tasting also the wines were average at best. In my opinion the wine tasted with the meats was the best the others were mediocre. As a tour of foods it was superb as to wines dont have high expectations!
This tour was AMAZING! Marcello was our guide and he was so wonderful! SERIOUSLY DO NOT EAT ANYTHING BEFORE YOU COME ON THIS! The amount of food you get is insane and amazing. It is the perfect way to experience the food in Rome. There was definitely wine as well! I could not recommend this tour enough! Do it!
My husband and I were fortunate enough to have Marcello as our tour guide. He was an extremely knowledgeable, personable guide who gave us a fantastic overview of Italian cuisine and was also pleasant company and easy to converse with. Before going to Italy we had been unsure if a food tour would be that great or worth our time and money. This tour exceeded and surpassed all expectations and was truly one of the best experiences we had on our entire trip to Italy! Next time we go back this is a tour we are going to take again and I'd recommend it to everyone and have told all our friends and family how amazing the experience was. Our tour began in Campo De' Fiori, where we tasted a huge tray of assorted cheeses and meats. There was one type of salami with liver in it I was wary of trying but Marcello insisted I would like the flavor. I have steered clear of eating anything with organs throughout my life, period! I decided where better to try some salami with liver incorporated in it than Italy? I decided to be brave and took a bite and I will say it was absolutely spectacular! I am so glad I tried everything offered even though I typically would never eat certain foods back at home! While eating this tray, to help wash it down, they provided us with a lovely organic red wine served chilled with such a clean, refreshing flavor. Next we went to a restaurant serving salted cod. I ate mine with lots of salt. The salt made the dish! Also, we drank more wine here and I will tell you there was no shortage of wine on this tour. The drinks were literally as much as you wanted and my husband and I were a bit tipsy at this point. Next we enjoyed some Pizza al' Taglia. The crust had a divine flavor and the sauce was something I was blown away by. I couldn't get past how fresh it tasted and how clean and earthy the tomatoes used in the pizza were. I love tomatoes and these were the best I have ever eaten! After this we took a lovely stroll along the Tiber River which is a gorgeous sight lit up at night! We crossed the Tiber River to walk toward the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere. We arrived at a fancy restaurant where we were served some of the most fabulous tasting cheeses, breads I have ever eaten. I believe our favorite was the buffalo cheese which was soft and served in a delicious sauce. The atmosphere here and the huge rustic, wooden table we sat around was so great. If our tour would have stopped at this place we would have been very satisfied. At this place we were given a white wine called, KATA, which both of us instantly loved. We bought two bottles to take home with us and also have the information of the restaurant to have more shipped to the States. At some point we stopped at a place to get an incredible street food called Suppli, which were SO GOOD I have decided I must make these back at home in my deep fryer. Our second to last stop was at a sit down restaurant in Trastevere where we ate a few different types of noodle dishes popular in Roma. My favorite dish here was the Pasta Carbonara which contained tender, succulent pig cheek. Our last stop was at a gelateria where we stood in a long line to get some of the creamiest tasting gelato we had on our entire trip. I chose a crema and a fruit flavored gelato which was the perfect combination choice for me to ending this tour. Both my husband and myself had eaten only breakfast on this day thinking we wanted to be hungry for our food tour. Thank goodness we didn't eat a meal close before because the portions of food were so plentiful we couldn't finish everything. We were fine with this because we still enjoyed sampling bites of the foods given to us. I could not give a tour higher praise. We took many tours on this trip and Marcello was the best tour guide of all! Thank you for the best time ever and we can't wait to go with your company soon. I seriously cannot believe there are so few reviews on this particular tour! The time was so delightful I expected there to be hundreds.
