My wife and I took the 100+ year old steamboat over to Walter Peak for the Sheep shearing and BBQ lunch. The entire trip was very well organized and both kids and adults will love being able to see the twin steam engines power the TSS Earnslaw. You can watch the guy shovel coal (1 ton/Hr) in to fuel the boilers. The sheep shearing was entertaining and the dogs did a great job of bringing the sheep to the pen. From there we went to eat a very nice self serve BBQ lunch. There is a wide selection of meats from BBQ Chicken, Pork, Beef, Lamb etc. Go hungry as there is a lot to eat. There was wide selection of desserts which were also very good.
This was incredibly enjoyable! The TSS Earnslaw steamer provided a nostalgic ride with beautiful views of the lake and Remarkable mountains. The sheep shearing with the sheep dogs demo was super interesting and the BBQ lunch was sumptuous with lots of quality choices, and all you could eat, in a stunning setting. Highly recommend this tour.
This tour is really really good. The first part is a 45min cruise on a 112ft coal fired steam ship that is fitted out for comfortable passenger travel. There are two covered decks and an open foredeck. The land portion at the Walter Peak farm is very good. It starts off with a sheep shearing and sheep dog demonstration followed by an extravagant bbq buffet lunch with all the food choice you could ever want. The return ship journey is accompanied by a lady playing well known sing-a-long songs on a grand piano. An excellent tour for good value.
It was a beautiful sunny day one drawback was that the ship was rather overcrowded a lot of people went on deck but it became very windy in the middle of the lake and everyone tried to get downstairs. It was lovely at the farm
Unfortunately for us the boat was over crowded and there were six of us crammed in to a booth. I was also disappointed with the amount of time spent at Walter Peak. The farm demonstration was great and the lunch was very nice, however no time was left to look around the farm or browse the gift shop
I ENJOYED THIS TOUR VERY VERY MUCH AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDS IT. THE BOAT CRUISE GAVE US A STUNNING VIEW OF QUEENSTOWN AND THE MOUNTAINS GREAT FOR PICTURE TAKING. THE FOOD AT THE RESTAURANT WAS EXCELLENT, EVERY SINGLE ITEM WAS DELICIOUS. THE FARM TOUR AS WELL WAS GREAT.
A well organised trip. The highlight being the BBQ lunch - plenty of good food- and well controlled by the staff to stop the hording tour groups from devouring the buffet.
TIP - if a couple get one of the lower number tables near the door and you get served faster
