Our afternoon Multnomah Falls and Columbia River Gorge Waterfalls tour was wonderful. Our guide was informative and was always very happy to take photos of us at the different locations. The views were fantastic. This was my husband's and my first visit to Portland and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Let me start by saying the tour of the Columbia River Gorge and the Mulknomah and Latourell Falls was great. A wonderful scenic experience, and Hub World Travel the tour operator delivered as described. The reason for the 2 stars is with the tour guide alone. We were on a 20 seat bus, and could not hear most of her commentary, even when requested to speak up. She left the Vista point over the Columbia River Gorge 5 minutes earlier that the stated depature time, leaving 3 tour participants behind. When we literally yelled at her that there were people missing as we left the parking lot, she didn't get off the bus or open the door to call for them. Fortunately, all three made their way back to the bus. Finally, at the end of the tour, confusion was the theme upon returning to Portland. She left about 1/2 of the people off, not where they had boarded, and told them a shutlle bus would take them back to their hotels. The tour bus, with her on it, left the folks on the street, and the shuttle bus drove past without stopping.
Again, I enjoyed the tour, and the waterfalls. Had it not been for our tour guide, it would have been a five star review.
I would not recommend this tour at all. The price 60 is way too much for just this taxi service. I booked this tour because I had a blast on my previous viator tour in Quebec. The tour in quebec was engaging, entertaining, and the tour guide was constantly sharing things about the city in the giant bus. This Portland tour was in a 12 passenger van and the tour guide was not able to answer a majority of the questions asked. There was a lot of dead silence during the drive. We actually had a car rented, but i chose to do this tour to make the trip more educational and to get like a local perspective of the place--but it was just a waste of money. In addition, the tour bus does not pick up customers from hotels near portland airport. Picked up at 2:15 and returned at 5:25.
The half day afternoon tour was just enough to see all of the beautiful waterfalls and not waste the entire day if you're only in Portland for a short amount of time. John was a friendly, knowledgeable, and fun tour guide. Despite the weather, we went to all of the sites and it was still worth it. I bummed that we couldn't see the view from the lookout point, but overall, I enjoyed the afternoon and got some spectacular photos of the waterfalls!
