My tour guide was Sara run by Tours by Steven and she was amazing and so patient with a group that had turned up a little late and hungover, I might add. She had great poise and conversation and explained everything that was interesting within the cemetery. Even to see Nicholas Cage's crypt is reason enough its quite impressive. It can get quite hot in summer though, and Sara tried to find as much shade as she could be definitely bring water and wear a hat!
We were lucky to be the only two on this morning tour so we received one on one attention from our guide, Jamey. He was very knowledgeable about New Orleans and the cemetery so we learned a lot. We recommend talking this tour versus just walking through the cemetery on your own as you get all of the history and lore f torhe same price as the entrance fee. We took the 9am tour which was smart because it was a very warm day!! Also, Jamey texted us before the tour with a picture of the meeting spot which was a nice touch and very helpful.
Chad was an awesome tour guide. He was very informed on the history of the cemetery and all the local folklore. We went early in the day which was great because we were the only ones there at first. Later when more groups were there and we could overhear the guides we thought Chad was give us more content. You learn a lot on the tour included where some current day sayings came from. Go early and avoid the crowds.
This tour was great! The cemetery is a MUST see, and Chad was a great guide! He gave is so many amazing details, and really knew a lot about the cemetery, as well as the history of New Orleans. We would highly recommend this tour!
This was an informative tour where I learned many things about entombment above ground. The guide Chad gave a great overview of the cemetery, the origins of above ground entombment and history on some of the fascinating aspects of this cemetery.
My family was really happy with this tour by Steven, who was full of information and clearly well researched. Tour began at the Visitor's Center, at the wall map where he explained what happened when Katrina hit. Because there was a funeral happening at Cemetery 1 that morning, we toured Cemetery 2 first, then we went to 1 for highlights. This was fine with us. I liked that the tour was at 9am, as it was before the heat of day and allowed us to book a lunch time activity. A cemetery tour was not at the top of my list for NOLA, but I'm glad we did this tour.
