There was a lot of traffic to reach the Amalfi coast but it was breathtaking and was all that was said about it. We had lunch at a small restaurant overlooking the bay, what a view and we stopped for a while in a small coastal town. Our guide Livio was very informative about Pompeii and with his stories, you can easily visualize the people that lived there. We found it was a bit rushed but that was understandable as we had to get back to the ship by a certain time before sailing. All in all a great tour.
Wow this was a wonderful trip and I'm so glad we booked it. Mikelle was our guide and he was so very knowledgeable about the Amalfi coastal towns as well as Pompeii history. Our driver was Pasquel and he was awesome and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all with him driving! Lots of high cliffs with views that were out of this world. I had always heard how beautiful the coast was and the pictures don't do it justice. You need to see it for yourself. We had a very nice lunch (that was included in the trip) and it was very tasty and filling! Plenty of free time after lunch to tour the town. There is nothing about this excursion that I would change!
Drive down Amalfi coast was pretty breathtaking. If you want to see the coast--take a tour. You can't appreciate the view if you are driving, and the hairpin turns can be nerve racking. The driver was excellent. We were in a small van and not a large bus. I recommend the smaller group tour. We made a rest room stop and a lunch stop. Lunch was pasta; good, but not great. Stopped in town of Amalfi for an hour. I thought this was too much time. Since we'd just eaten lunch, didn't need any snacks. There is an impressive cathedral, and loads of the usual shops. Drove to Pompei over a more direct route, but still scenic through the mountains. Pompeii was truly awesome. More impressive than we thought. We had a well informed almost two hour walking tour. Only draw back is that there was an Italian couple on the tour, so the guide was translating the commentary. They were nice folks but it didn't leave time for us to ask the guide many questions. Pompeii is not to be missed. . We were there in Oct. Not too hot.
The coast was so beautiful and had a good tour in Pompeii. That part was excellent, but our van broke down which wasn't new , and the replacement which wasn't new didn't have air conditioning working, so was not a comfortable ride. Our driver was not supplied with a microphone so we couldn't hear him and his English was not the best.
Magnificent scenery. Our driver, Mike, new all the prime spots for great photo opps., with each one surpassing the other. Lunch was tasty in a boutique, mountain-side hotel with spectacular views. Our tour guide in Pompeii, Rosella, was quite knowledgeable. The only downside was that instead of one of World Tours deluxe Mercedes vans, we rode in a tired, rattly Fiat van. On caveat: If you get nervous on twisty mountain roads, this may not be the tour for you. Also, DO NOT take this tour in the height of tourist season. The exponentially increased crowds and traffic combined with the higher temperatures will make the experience less enjoyable
