I would recommend this tour if you have any interest in history and how events in our past are played out in the streets of our cities and people's lives. Mark our guide was very informative and has an obvious personal interest in the subject which came across in his thoughtful content and delivery. He was an excellent guide.
Educational and interesting walking tour of the city with a knowledgeable guide. Our guide Nikola was very knowledgeable with an educational background in art and history and expertly navigated our group through the city center. She made several stops to provide us with valuable background on the history of Germany, Bavaria and Munich that helped us understand the significance of the monuments and historical areas.
I remember the trip has too many people in the group, making it extremely hard to hear the tour guide unless you were fighting to get right at the front amongst other people. We left half way through. Was really looking forward to it and had travelled from Ausgurb to Munich to be on this tour.
This is one of the best tours I have ever taken. Our guide, Aileen, was not only very knowledgeable about every place we stopped but she was engaging and took her time explaining details. You can tell she really enjoyed her job. The price point was also a deal! The next time I am in Munich I will be taking my tour with them. Highly recommend!!!
I will start by saying that this tour could be excellent given the rich history of Munich and the origins of the National Socialist party in this area, if you had the right tour guide. Unfortunately, we did not have a great experience the day we went. Our guide Kai was friendly, but was either unfamiliar with this particular tour or just the historical aspects in general which led to a disappointing tour overall.
We basically walked to a location, then sat there for a 30 minute lecture before moving on. The discussion was sometimes only loosely tied to the location, other times veering off on random tangents that made it hard to follow, and other times turning into his personal opinions which included the premise that 'Hitler was a normal guy, but he had the devil inside of him, which all of us do' which was annoying bordering on offensive. There were certainly a few bright moments, but overall the pace felt slow with much more talking than walking which wasn't what we had anticipated. There were a few times where 'facts' were prefaced with 'as far as I know' or 'I personally believe'. It also felt very Hitler focused, and less on the Third Reich and Munich's specific history.
On the positive side, there were a few neat tidbits, and a couple cool locations visited. If you'd just arrived it Munich, you'd see areas that you could explore on your own later. But the tour itself was over 3 hours, and was simply too much time sitting in an uncomfortable place listening to a long lecture. We've done other tours and wished we spent a few more minutes in a location before moving on, this was the opposite where I would look off in the distance and see something interesting but we didn't even touch on it.
Maybe it was bad luck that the guide was new to this tour, as I've seen great reviews of him doing other tours and great reviews of this particular tour when guided by others. But it didn't live up to our expectations and towards the end we were unsure if we even wanted to stick around until it was over.
