Our booking with Viator was handled by a local company in Marrakech called Instyle Travel. Our guide Said was a lovely friendly guy and despite the language difference was able to chat and answer our questions during the whole journey.
We stopped off at a couple of places on the way for refreshments and to take photographs at some notable viewpoints.
Be prepared for a long journey, and if you think Marrakech is hot, wait till you get to Ait Ben Haddou!
Said handed us over to local guides in Quarzazate Muhammed and Ait Ben Haddou Hassan, both guides were friendly and informative though Muhammed especially had encyclopedic knowledge of the Kasbah and the movies filmed in the area.
Despite the long trip these historical monuments are worth seeing, though if possible I would recommend, maybe seeing them in the cooler months, April/May or September/October. The only bad point I would mention was the food option we had, it was a set menu and price, with 3 courses which was far too much in the heat of late July. However I would recommend Said and Instyle Travel to anyone wishing to see these wonderful historical monuments, you couldn't get a friendlier or more helpful guide.
This tour was truly the highlight of our trip to Marrakech! The day was amazing, and well worth the 4 hour drive each way. The views of the Atlas Mountains on the journey were incredible, and our driver stopped several times for photos and snack/restroom breaks. Our driver, Ahmed, was very professional and knowledgeable. Our morning pickup was right on time, and the Mercedes mini-van was roomy and comfortable. One bit of advice is to take Dramamine (motion sickness medication) prior to the ride, as the curvy mountain roads can definitely cause motion sickness. We took Dramamine, and had a lovely day. The tours of the kasbahs were fascinating, with knowledgeable local tour guides. Highly recommend the camel ride -- the views from high on the camel were beautiful, and there was a surprisingly lovely breeze across the desert.
This trip was fantastic. It is a long day, we left around 7:30AM and got back around 10PM, however it is absolutely worth it. We had two individual tours, one of a Kasbah castle in Quarzazate and another of Ait Ben Haddou. Both guides were fantastic and make the tours fun. The views stand by themselves, they're absolutely incredible. I've never seen a more beautiful town/landscape than Ait Ben Haddou. Furthermore, to get there from Marrakech you pass over the Atlas Mtn range. The views the entire car ride are captivating. It gets chilly up in the mountains! Would definitely recommend bringing along a jacket : Overall, fantastic experience. I went with my girlfriend, we're both 22 and just out of college. We felt entirely safe the entire way. If you have an extra day in Marrakech, I highly recommend this trip.
Sent message to confirm pick up time and nearest pick up point prior to tour start. This was great since our Riad had no road access and this applies to many riads in Marrakech! Our tour guide Mr Norl was friendly and accommodating to my elderly mother whom has difficulty walking for too long. He was fluent in English and very knowledgeable when being asked many questions. We enjoyed Ait Ben Haddou, such a mesmerizing place and worth the 3-4hrs drive through the Atlas mountains where there were a few photo stops. Ouarzazate, however, was not our cup of tea. We found that it was more like a film set and aimed at tourists whom wanted to know what movies were set there and how the movie industry runs etc. In future we would return to Ait Ben Haddou only as it is a long trip and driving in Morocco is a little scary!
The driver and the guides were excellent. They showed up on time to pick us up even though our location was not the easiest to find. The camel ride was fantastic. I was glad that there were only 4 of us on the tour as it was a long day with lots of driving. The only negative was the food, the restaurant was very busy and our food was over cooked and not very flavorful, I would suggest eating at one of the smaller restaurants.
It gives you a general insight of the region which astonishing, but very limited time, everything is very rushed. It's overpriced. The lunch, the camel ride or even the guided tours don't cost such amount of money. If you eventually rent a car better to do it on your own to control the time you wanna spend and plus the cost will be lower. To be mistaken you won't spend more than than few minutes in Ouarzazate, most of the time is spent in Ait Ben Haddou. The camel ride is on the road and they don't treat very well the camels.
The driver was good, very good mood trying to be positive about everything. Overall enjoyable but I don't recommend.
Spectacular ! Really enjoyed the rugged beauty of the Altas mountains. We were able to stop and take photographs of the elevated scenery before we continued to the Anti Atlas for a camel ride and then onto the Kasbah at Ben Haddou. We continued onto Ouartzazate where we took a tour of the film studios. Very enjoyable day. Our guide and driver did an amazing job. Only criticism was long day and mini bus was a bit cramped
