We decided that do a vineyard tour in Ribera del Duero region and the experience exceeded our expectations. We visited three bodegas/vineyards: Dominio de Cair, Val Soltillo and Legaris. The wine was exquisite: rosé and/or white and red. The local tour was done by Gourmet Madrid and the tour guide—Jorge— was great and knowlegeable. We were able to buy wine and ship it home. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you Jorge from Gourmet Madrid.
The tour was cancelled, because no one else signed up to go on the tour that day. Gourmet Madrid offered us several other options, though. We ended up doing a wine tasting with them at Bar La Malvasia. Jaime led the tasting. He was fun and knowledgeable. We had a wonderful time and we learned a lot about Spanish wine. I do wish we had been able to actually visit the wineries in the Ribera del Duero, but it was a good alternative, and I was pleased that Gourmet Madrid really went out of their way to make sure we had a good time.
This has a potential of very interesting tour. The wineries visited are worthwhile and some of them are truly unique. There is only one problem, our guide was scheduled to take another tour around in Madrid that night. It was his priority to get back to Madrid to make it to the tapas tour that night and little else mattered. This is not necessarily a bad review of that particular guide but rather the system that schedules this way. We were rushed to get going all day, barely had time for lunch and last winery visit was essentially crumpled to nothing. Also, visit to Segovia was just a glance and we were just pressed to get back to the bus. As the result the time spend at some places was not very worthwhile and at some point I felt like I am being pronged like cattle to get back into the bus. I just don't think this is good for anyone including the guide, visitors and tour company. Overall, very mediocre experience because of these issues. Real pity, it could have been a highlight of our time in Madrid.
This trip consisted of visiting 3 different wineries, all very interesting. The wine pours were generous, although some of the wines seemed a little young/unbalanced. There was a chance to buy some of the wines, but no hard-core sales occurred. The guides at the wineries were enthusiastic, and eager to share their knowledge. Our tour guide, Enriquez was very informative and passionate about the wines as well. The lunch was great, and a good value for a small price. The most confusing thing was the meeting spot in the morning. The address was very vague, and there was nothing to designate the open area as the meeting spot. Fortunately, the group found each other, as we had asked for directions at many of the store fronts at this street intersection, and not one person was familiar with the tour or company! This needs to be fixed.
This was a fantastic wine tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable. We went to 3 wineries and one of them had underground tunnels with wine storage. I would recommend this trip to everyone. My only suggestion would be for the guide who met us in Madrid to carry a sign for the tour. We had a hard time locating him.
