This was a beautiful tour. Gion is very beautiful. The tour guide, Ayoko was very nice and explained everything well with very good English. The history of the district and geisha was also very interesting. We were lucky enough to see a Maiko on our tour. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn More about geishas and the history of Japan and Gion.
Yuri did a wonderful job guiding our family group of 8. Excellent English and explanations. We saw about 7 maiko and 1 geiko which was awesome! Yuri also took the time to find us a fabulous restaurant afterwards to cater to our dirty requirements no wheat. Thanks and highly recommended!!!
It was so neat to see Gion and learn about the geiko in that region. It's so beautiful there and I didn't even know it was just over the river from downtown Kyoto. My one qualm is that the tour was way too massively huge. I think 80 people showed up and we split into two groups, which made it difficult to hear, see the guide, and cars kept going by and the huge group kept having to squish against buildings to get out of the way. Just charge more and cap your groups! I'd have paid more for a 10 to 15 person tour. I'd also love to do a tour like this earlier in the morning, like at 8am, when there are less tourists in the area overall--I went over to Gion early the next morning and it was so cool to be there while it was quite empty. Plus a few wedding photographers.
This was a very interesting tour and we were so lucky to see a number of maiko out and about. It was very cold and the kids did struggle a little with the cold towards the end it snowed later that night. However, it was a fascinating tour and another highlight of our trip.
Our guide, Yuri was positive throughout the tour. The large group took a while to divide into 2 groups of about 40 each. One hour would of been plenty as some information was repeated and our feet got tired. We luckily saw 3 Maiko getting out of a taxi and one passing in the street which was great!
