We had an amazing time with Virginia our tour guide! We were promptly met at the designated meetup point, and were whisked around the Whampoa area on an insightful and almost gluttonous food tour. The amount of food is way more than generous, so be sure to bring your appetite. While in between food stops Virginia masterfully described the historical aspects of the Whampoa area, along with the current cultural aspects of the area, as well as the city. This was an absolutely delightful tour, and in my opinion among the top five must see things in Hong Kong.
My wife and I had an excellent time on Virginia's street food tour. Everything was interesting and off the beaten path. We would never have found the wet/dry market on our own, nor known what to order at the various street food vendors we visited. Additionally, we learned a lot about what daily life is like for many Hongkongers and learned a bit about the history of the city. The tour lasted about four hours and involved a decent amount of walking with good sitting breaks while eating, but it wasn't exhausting at all, just interesting and delicious. Would recommend to anybody with a free half-day in Hong Kong.
The food tour Virginia led was amazing. She provided commentary not just on the food, but on living in Hong Kong, real estate costs, and details about the history of her neighborhood, Whampoa. The tour provided an opportunity to learn about an area Hong Kong that is growing rapidly yet has charm.
The tour included numerous tastings sweet, spicy, savory, etc. as well as an extensive walk through the wet market.
I would highly recommend her tours, both the food tour as well as the free Central walking tour. Great for singles, couples, families, and seniors. Virginia is dynamic, funny, informative and entertaining!
This tour exceeded all expectations, we had a fantastic time.
Such a great variety of delicious and interesting dishes in locations, that as a tourist ,you would be hard pressed to find on your own.
Virginia was excellent as our food guide and included lots of local history of Whampoa .
It's easy to find , just bring a good appetite !
I can highly recommend this tour
Dont miss out on this highly interesting tour in under-the-radar Whampoa it recently got its own MTR extension. First a little history of the area from the enthusiastic local guide while strolling thru housing estate courtyards to see different types of architecture. We then visited an impressive wet market where locals shop daily for an array of fresh produce, dry goods, seafood and butchery products. A visit to a temple and small shrine saw New Year preparations underway. The highlight was stopping at small restaurants and food carts, meeting their owners, and eating a variety of unique and delicious foods based on five different tastes. Tasty fish balls, shui mai and chubby rice noodles in hoisin/peanut sauce anyone? YUM. There is A LOT of food so be sure to come hungry. Thanks again for a great tour!!
