We spent about 14 days based in Hoi An and did day trips to various sights in the area. One of these was a day trip to Hue. It was a very long day - about 12 hours in travel and sightseeing. Because of the time constraints we were always on the move and so each sight was a rather hurried affair, but certainly well worth the effort. We had a great guide and driver who kept us informed about each of the places visited. If you want to have a good look around Hue, it might be better to spend a couple of days there, but this day trip gives a good snap shot of the area.
Very nice and friendly tour guide and driver. The tour guide Hieu made the best out of the rainy weather, doing his best to share all that he knew, and also making small talks with us along the 3h drive. Although the driver couldn't speak much english, he was still very enthusiastic and conversing with us through the help of Hieu, and his body gestures.
This is a very long day due to the driving time. We were picked up on time in an old and dirty 4WD, our tour guide had good english and the driver was fairly sedate by Vietnam driving standards. The tour itself was good, I definitely recommend hiring a guide as there is not much signage to explain what you are looking at so most of the significance would be missed on your own.
Very good trip but a long journey there and back. The time is because the speed limit is strictly enforced coupled with some poor roads means the average speed is only about 50KPH. The trip itself was great. Our guide was very good but we had to concentrate to understand his accent. The lunch that was part of the deal was excellent. I thoroughly recommend the trip but ensure you have entertainment or a neck pillow for the journey
