This is a no thrills circular journey along the Danube. I did the 7:20 sailing. There’s no commentary on this, but it’s only a low cost trip, so not expected. The mulled wine is a nice thing to have when you get on. Budapest is so beautiful by night, but I would recommend that you aquaint yourself with the City first so that you know what you are looking at on the cruise. The terminal is easy to get to and easy to find. Would recommend
We took an hour long evening cruise. There was no commentary but the views are spectacular. The boarding pontoon was not so easy to reach. Quite a walk from the main area of Pest. We took a metro to Lehale then still had a 12 min walk (in the rain unfortunately). The mulled wine provided upon boarding helped warm us up.
The evening got off to a bad start when the 'gentleman ' checking our tickets was extremely rude- shouting at everyone and shoving us back. None of the staff seemed friendly. No commentary, just terrible music. The dock is further out than most of the tour boats use. There are better trips available.
Amazing! I took the 6:30 p.m. tour in summer so it was perfectly timed - we started out at sunset, and we were able to see the night lights on either side of the river come to life as we went along the river, and by the time we turned back, the whole surroundings and the bridges were lit up - and it's quite a magnificent sight to see. The welcome champagne is an additional awesome touch to compliment the experience.
I recommend taking a Cruise timing that coincides with the sunset only because the way in which the setting sun fires up the city and its monuments is truly spectacular. The best views from the boat are to be had from the open upper deck. Even the statues under Magaret bridge seem to be in touching distance.
The flipside of the Cruise is that the boat is located in an area along Budapest's river side which is hard to find and not well sign posted, so give yourself some time before your cruise departs to locate the boat. Our taxi driver had a tough time figuring out which was our cruise boat amongst the many anchored along the shore. Also the 1 free soft drink or free alcoholic drink offered on board is at the boat management's discretion and if you want to choose a drink you like, you have to select options from their menu and pay on board.
All in all, we had a great experience because of tremendous beauty to be viewed of both sides of Budapest from the river. We took this cruise on our first evening in Budapest and it was a lovely way to end the day. The setting sun bathing the Liberty Statue on Gellert Hill was a sight I will never forget.
