We made the best of it and really enjoyed the sights. Unfortunately, the way this tour was managed was very disappointing. We met the liaison on the pier and she stated that because only 4 people booked we would need to wait for a smaller vehicle. When the smaller vehicle arrived, it was NOT a tour van. It was a taxi. Instead of having a knowledgeable tour guide as advertised on the listing take us around and tell us about the things we passed on the way to our stops, we had a taxi driver simply drive us to all the locations although she did show us her house. There were three adults smashed into the middle row seat of a small SUV.
Well the Crystal Caves were closed. We drove 90 minutes to see them. I understand why they were closed due to higher then normal tides but the tour company should have known this. I would expect more from tour company. Cave people said they knew the day before that it would be closed.
The tour van was at the pier as arranged. Arthur was personable and knowledgeable. The van was not up to standard. First, it did not have a microphone. Those in the back had no idea what Arthur was sharing along the way. Secondly, the air conditioning broke half way through the trip. The Caves were magnificent. However no guidance was given as to the departure time and no recommendation made regarding the pros and cons of one or two caves. As a result, part of the group had to sit and wait for an hour and a half for those who chose two caves. At the Aquarium the group pressed Arthur for a specific departure time. The itinerary and pricing was fine, but some refinements need to be made regarding vehicle quality and time management.
Going to Crystal Caves is certainly something to see. But, there are a lot of stairs to climb to get back out. Our driver was very nice and knowledgeable. Explained and showed us many things about the island of Bermuda.
The tour is great for small children as well as adults. Our driver Darrin was very knowledgable. The caves certainly were unique since you walk on a floating dock to see the end of the cavern. It was nice to have so many things pointed out on our drive to our destination.
The tour was wonderful, and Juanita Jones was an amazing tour guideas wells a terrific driver on those winding Bermuda roads. We have a great time at the caves and zoo/aquarium stops. Enough time to get a real sense of each place as well as a wonderful introduction to Bermuda and its friendly culture.
We saw Juanita in Hamilton a couple of days later and she was taking a group to St. George's---we were sorry we hadn't booked that trip with her as well!!!
