Our tour guide's name was Albert. Although we signed up for a small group tour, it ended up just being my 2 friends and I along with our driver and Albert in an air conditioned van for the day. We had the best time ever! Albert was very helpful, full of stories and an all round great guide. He suggested we take the cable cars up and the toboggan down, which we did, and it was the best way to experience the wall. We got there early in the morning which I highly recommend and so there were not many people in the queue for the cable cars or on the wall - and it was much cooler than later in the day too! Lunch was yum! I'm vegetarian but there was an ample selection for me and I would go back to that local restaurant again in a heartbeat! I would have personally liked to hike a bit more but it was crazy hot mid-June so will save that for another trip!
This was a highlight of our trip. Tina our guide was not only well informed, she was laid back and relaxed. Both the Great Wall and the Summer Palace are massive and one could spend a day at each, yet unlike other tour guides, Tina put no time constraints on us, and suggested we move at our own pace. Plus the restaurant she chose for lunch was authentic and delicious. There were two reasons we chose this tour over the others - 1: Mutianyu the access point to the wall was not crowded and the views were fantastic. And 2: it was a small group. Most of the reviews said they were the only people on the tour, and that was true for us as well. We were the only 2 on the tour, so Tina customized it to our needs. 100 satisfied and 5 STARS - Jeff, Tampa Florida USA
Amazing tour! It actually ended up as a private tour because no one else booked it that day. Totally fine by me and my friend because we were able to go on our own pace. Our guide Bella, picked us up at our hotel lobby and then we were off to The Wall. Our driver was great. Didn't catch his name but he's the guy with the pink hair. I felt safe in his car. I was a bit worried after witnessing how the locals drive in Beijing.
I highly recommend visiting the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. It is a bit further further away but less crowded. Bella gave us plenty of history about the wall and gave us options to explore the wall on our own. We opted to go the harder route which is just very steep. We managed to snap some photos of the wall without any other visible visitors. We took the chair lift up and the toboggan down. I definitely recommend the toboggan down. It's pretty fun if you don't get stuck behind someone going a slower pace. Then we taken to a local village for lunch. She asked if we had any preferences on what we wanted to eat and wouldn't eat. It was delicious. After lunch, we headed to the Summer Palace. Such a beautiful palace! It was a bit crowded and really hot, so we didn't stay for a really long time.
If you're thinking about booking this tour, just do it.
100 recommended tour with our fantastic guide Roy. We had plenty of time at the great wall and the tobogan was amazing! At lunch there were lots of tasty food from different parts of China. In the afternoon we went to the beautiful summer palace, and the olimpics stadium. We had a great day, thanks Roy!!
Great tour! The tour was well-organized and Alice, our guide, made it very interesting with her historical insights. The Mutianyu section of the Wall is beautifully restored, and situated in breath-taking scenery. We were there for just about the perfect length of time.
The Summer Palace wasn't initially on our list of must see in Beijing but we are very glad that we visited it. It is spectacular and easier to visit than the Forbidden City. Again, we were there just about the perfect length of time.
This tour requires a fair amount of walking, but because it's a small group, there is some flexibility.
Whilst some may think it too much to do both these things in one day we felt this tour managed time and logistics very well. Our guide Peter really cared that our experience was tailored to our wishes. He provided much information about the sites and handled all tickets and routes smoothly. We asked many questions and he answered them all. Hotel pickup was on time and we had asked for an early start to escape Beijing traffic. Peter outlined options for at the wall and we chose the cablecar to the top. This gave us more time to walk along a section before coming back down. We were delighted it was a no shopping tour since we avoided all the traders. Lunch in a local restaurant was very good and again took our personal preferences into account. We even tried Chinese firewater!
The afternoon at the Summer Palace was good although more time would have allowed greater exploration. Peter guided us smoothly through the complex, providing commentary along the way.
Normally we are independent travelers and avoid tours. However we would thoroughly recommend this experience. We very much appreciated both Peter and our driver's efforts. Whilst we read that tipping is not done in China we hope that they both are paid well for their work.
We had an amazing experience with a very patient, knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. Despite being the only two people on this trip, it still went ahead with no issues. It was very quiet part of the wall with beautiful scenery. We went up in the chairlift and came down on the speed chute. The lunch was absolutely delicious which we shared with the driver and the guide. Summer Palace was beautiful and well worth a visit.
Highly recommend this tour to anyone and would book with Viator again! First class service!
