Klondike Gold Dredge

The Klondike Gold Dredge, also known as the Sixtymile Dredge, weighs 350 tons and once helped gold miners sift through dirt and sand to find gold during the 1898 Alaskan Gold Rush. One of more than 120 gold dredges used during the time, it now offers an interesting look into the past. Dredge masters show visitors exactly how this amazing piece of equipment worked and even give tours of the inside rooms. Historic photographs, educational films, artifacts and costumed actors enhance the experience.

Another highlight of the Klondike Gold Dredge is the opportunity to pan for gold—and keep everything you find! As you’re guaranteed to find gold, this makes for a very exciting souvenir. You can also see Iditarod sled dogs and learn what it’s like to be a musher, even going down into a special staging area—complete with Northern Lights simulation and an ice throne—to feel the below-40 chill of the Iditarod Trail (while keeping warm with some cocoa!). End your day with a meal and an ice cold beer, root beer or Denali at the onsite restaurant and brewery, which is available for tours.
