One of the most scenic ways to travel, the Skyrail
Rainforest Cableway takes travelers over and through
the ancient Queensland rain forest in enclosed six-seater gondolas before arriving at the mountain town of
Kuranda, home to a number of wildlife attractions. The 90-minute, one-way ride covers 4.7 miles (7.5 km) of pristine World
Heritage-listed rain forest and is often combined with a return ticket on the Kuranda Scenic Railway.
The journey includes time at two mid-stations: the Red Peak Station, where rangers lead guided boardwalk tours, and the Barron Falls Station, home of the CSIRO Interpretation Centre and the mighty Barron Falls. Bring your camera to capture the tropical landscape, and keep an eyeo ut for bright blue Ulysses butterflies.
The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is set in Barron Gorge National Park, about nine miles (15 km) from Cairns. The site is open daily from 9am to 5:15pm (excluding Christmas), with gondolas departing continuously. The cableway is wheelchair-accessible.
